Dr Siale Foliaki graduated from the University of Otago School of Medicine in 1992 and trained in psychiatry completing his Fellowship with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College in 2006 as an Adult Generalist Psychiatrist before completing his dual fellowship qualification as a certified Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist in 2016.
Dr Foliaki holds several senior roles within the New Zealand mental health sector including the Associate Clinical Director of Te Whatu Ora Counties Manukau Mental Health Services and Lead Psychiatrist at Whakarongorau National Telehealth Services. Dr Foliaki has also been the Clinical Director of Capri Sanctuary, a boutique mental health and addictions residential provider since 2016.
In addition to his long years of clinical service he has over the course of his career participated in significant pieces of research in the mental health sector and has been heavily involved in the establishment of a number of primary and secondary mental health services, including in the the NGO sector. In addition to the roles described above Dr Foliaki undertakes Fitness to Practice assessments for both the New Zealand Medical and Nursing Councils and neurodiversity assessments for students of the University of Auckland and Auckland University of Technology.
In recognition of his lifetime of service to the mental health sector he was awarded the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2023.
